RESOLUTION NO. 28

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MAYOR, HON. JAMES J. GORDON, JR. TO ENTER INTO A LETTER OF UNDERSTANDING
BETWEEN THE UNITED NATIONS FUND FOR FAMILY PLANNING ACTIVITY (UNFPA) AND THE CITY OF OLONGAPO, FOR THE ADOPTION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE UNFPA 6TH COUNTRY PROGRAMME
REGARDING REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH, GENDER AND POPULATION MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT
WHEREAS, the global population with its rapidly increasing growth rate yields related problems in the areas of reproductive and sexual health to both adults and adolescent groups, and problems in poverty, economic crisis and sustainability;
WHEREAS, to ensure human well-being today and in the future, focus is needed on policies and programmes for sustainable development;
WHEREAS, core to the concerns of the UNFPA are the issues on reproductive rights and health such as family planning, safe motherhood, prevention of HIV/AIDS; and issues on gender equality, education and women empowerment;
WHEREAS, in the UNFPA 6th Country Programme Document for the Philippines with implementation period from CY 2005-2009, the City of Olongapo is the only city chosen, among the ten (10) provinces included, as one of the partners in the said programme;

WHEREAS, with the said partnership, the estimated cost of financial assistance for Olongapo City will be One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000.00) per year for the next five (5) years provided by the UNFPA for capability-building activities and training of public health personnel and staff of other partner agencies, purchase of supplies and equipment for the health centers of the three (3) targeted barangays namely: Sta. Rita, New Cabalan and Barretto;
NOW, THEREFORE, on motion of Councilor Angelina B. Andrada, with the unanimous accord of the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod present,
RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Sangguniang Panlungsod in session assembled, to authorize, as it hereby authorizes the City Mayor, Hon. James J. Gordon, Jr. To Enter Into A Letter Of Understanding Between The United Nations Fund For Family Planning Activity (UNFPA) And The City Of Olongapo, For The Adoption And Implementation Of The UNFPA 6th Country Programme regarding Reproductive Health, Gender and Population Management and Development.
