RESOLUTION NO. 57
(Series of 2004)

A RESOLUTION ADOPTING NOVEMBER 24 -30, 2004
AS NATIONAL BOOK WEEK IN OLONGAPO


WHEREAS, Proclamation 109 designates the period from November 24-30 as National Book Week;

WHEREAS, The Local Government Code mandates LGU’s to ensure and support among other things the preservation and enrichment of culture;

WHEREAS, the reading of good books or the printed page is one of the most effective method of bringing enlightenment within the reach of the largest possible number of people, and or promoting the cause of popular culture with its tremendous social benefits;

WHEREAS, it is desirable that the task of arousing a wider spread interest in the reading of good books be recognized as a highly patriotic duty as well as a privilege;

WHEREAS, the City of Olongapo celebrates Book Week from November 24-30, 2004 and include the following suggested activities;

1. Announcement of the National Book Week during the flag ceremony and message from the City Mayor;
2. Mounting of streamers and putting up of pylons to announce the event;
3. Story Telling;

4. Treasure Hunt and Find the Key;
5. Poster Making and Painting Contests;
6. Acoustic Night;
7. KBG Title Contest;
8. Familiarization of the KBG Complex, Museum, Convention Center, Olongapo City Public Library, Gordon College, OCARE, Beautification, Parks and Plazas and other agencies within the complex;
9. Media Publicity;
10. Blood Typing and CPR/Bandaging Demonstration.

NOW, THEREFORE, on motion of Councilor Marey Beth D. Marzan and co-sponsored by Councilor Brian Patrick H. Gordon, with the unanimous accord of the Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod present,

RESOLVED AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Sangguniang Panlungsod in session assembled, to adopt, as it hereby adopts November 24-30, 2004 as National Book Week in Olongapo City.
